Hi all, i usually feed my discus with tetra bits using auto feeder and always found some tiny white insect moving inside after sometimes. Use to fill the auto feeder to max level but due to this reason now only top up to last about a week to 2 and replace it if there are white insect inside. My question is will these white insect cos any problem if continue to feed my discus????

Thanks

The white insects will not cause any problems to your discus. It might be even a good source of protein. But the tetrabits having been left over the tank for so long might have gone bad due to the humidity.Try to refill more often, daily if possible.

No, I would never feed any fish or animal on ONLY ONE food source. Discus need a varied diet to make them grow well and get all the vitamins, minerals and fats they need for proper development.

Question: Would you eat just rice and nothing else every day???? blink.gif blink.gif I think you would get pretty fed up with that diet if this was your only food source.

I think if just fed them with a single source of food then they will be built up to just only accept this single source of food and will be hard for them to accept other food. I once have a pcs just only accept the BH and ignore all other food, or someone could have experienced that their discus only accept bits and nothing else. So for this reason it is also good to feed them with variety of food.

Note: The bits in the auto-feeder will contaminate quite fast if not consume within a week due to the contact with air (moisture), so it is best to just fill up a 1/4 or so, and repeat the filling when consumed.
